The herbaceous peony is a perennial plant of easy culture, very hardy it is planted in bare roots (rhizome) or in mound according to the period.
Its flowers are used to compose superb, often fragrant bouquets.
The aerial part composed of foliage and flowers comes out each year in the spring to offer an annual flowering which can be spread over several weeks by mixing the varieties.
In winter the aerial part disappears to return more abundant the following spring after a period of hibernation.
The Itoh or hybrid peony comes from a mixture of herbaceous and Tree peonies .
The Itoh/Hybrid peony is very vigorous and very floriferous. This type of peony is the hardiest. Its flowering is abundant and spreads over a longer period than herbaceous. Its flowers can be used in bouquets
It has both the underground part (rhizome) of the herbaceous and the aerial part sometimes composed of wood of the shrub.
Like the herbaceous peony, it disappears in winter except sometimes a few branches which made of wood like the tree peony remain and often bear buds for the following spring.
